Narrative
Darners (Family Aeschnidae) are typically large and high-flying dragonflies. The wingspread can be up to 12.0 cm and the wings are usually clear without any pattern. Many of the species are brightly colored with blues and greens. Another characteristic that can help identify this group is that their eyes meet on the top of the head. There are about 43 different species in this family that are found in the United States and Canada. Anax junius, a typical Aeschnidae, is very common and widespread in North America having been recorded from every state including Hawaii and Alaska.
