Narrative
Ithomidae Family, limited entirely to the New World tropics except for a single species found in Australia and New Guinea, are characterized by long narrow bodies, narrow wings, and small size. Many species have clear wings. Many feed on plants of the tomato family. Several species are excellent Heliconid mimics. Gerardo Lamas in his 2004 checklist of Neotropical Lepodoptera lists 355 Neotropical species. Mr. Lamas also places this family as subfamily Ithomiinae of the Nymphalidae.
