Narrative
North American Whites (Nearctic Pierini) are generally white colored butterflies with some black spots. The most common species, Pieris rapae, is an introduced species from the Old World. Pieris rapae is a well-known crop pest. It is generally quite common in the eastern United States. The native Pieris virginiensis is a comparatively rare species. There are several other species in this genus including P. napi and P. protodice that are found in the United States and Canada. The genera Anthocaris and Euchloe also belong in this subfamily.
